The construction of the Leaf by Oscar cigar is exemplary; it’s an unconventional cigar and it’s brilliant! The filler comes from Honduras, and the wrapper is a Corojo. Corojo leaves originally come from Cuba, but are now also grown outside Cuba. After trimming the ‘triple cap’, we take a cold draw and detect notes of nuts and pepper in the background. The aroma at the foot of the cigar is nutty.
In the first third, the flavour offers hints of pepper with lovely nutty and woody notes, whilst the finish is slightly earthy on the palate. The body is exemplary and the flavour rich.
In the second third, coffee notes begin to emerge, combined with woody tones and a very well-balanced earthiness. The ash holds up brilliantly; the cigar doesn’t overheat and, overall, it’s a top-class smoke.
The third third remains rich and full-bodied, with beautifully balanced hints of wood and pepper against an earthy backdrop. Leaf by Oscar Corojo is smooth and pleasant right through to the end.
