The construction of the Leaf by Oscar cigar is exemplary; it’s unconventional and simply brilliant! The filler comes from Honduras, whilst the lovely brown Sumatra wrapper is grown in Ecuador. After trimming the ‘triple cap’, we take a cold draw and detect a slight earthiness against a woody backdrop. Perhaps even hints of citrus. The aroma at the foot of the cigar is slightly, very slightly spicy.
In the first third we have a flavour of milk chocolate enveloped in the characteristic taste of tobacco. We can also detect white pepper and a few drops of citrus juice. The flavour is not overpowered by the extreme strength of the cigar. They are medium-bodied, yet offer a full and juicy flavour.
In the second third the cigar’s flavour develops more pronounced citrus notes with a wonderful tobacco flavour, whilst hints of milk chocolate and white pepper slowly recede into the background, though they remain identifiable.
The third third is deep, the flavour of the tobacco gradually shifts to an earthy note, the peppery spiciness intensifies and the citrus notes take a back seat. The finish is unexpected and enchanting.
